The five musicians from Brussels, who are now recognised and followed on the international music scene, are back with ‘Hiwar’, an album highlighting their musical signature: a bold fusion of modern jazz and traditional North African music. In Arabic, ‘Hiwar’ means ‘dialogue’, a word that perfectly sums up the spirit of this opus: an exchange celebrating cultures, heritages and innovations. In essence, dialogue means a mutual quest for understanding and authenticity. By exposing thoughts, beliefs and emotions, ‘Hiwar’ is a space where identities reflect and learn from each other. Each member of the quintet brings his or her own world and experience to the table, creating a powerful, grounded and contemporary collective vision.
Aleph Quintet has won numerous awards, including ‘Revelation’ by Jazz Magazine, ‘4 stars’ by Le Soir, ‘Best Belgian jazz album’ by Jazz à Liège, the ‘Prix de la Presse Musicale Française’, and ‘Tanit d’auget’ at the Journées Musicales de Carthage. The group also performs throughout the year in a number of countries, including Belgium, France, Spain, Germany, Tunisia, Jordan and the UK.
