This is the first CD by Jan de Haas as a bandleader and – perhaps even less known – an opportunity to show his talent on the vibraphone. De Haas came to jazz in the eighties, earning himself a solid reputation as a sideman for players such as Toots Thielemans, Philippe Catherine, Chet Baker, Dave Pike, Eddie Daniels, Steve Houben, Michel Herr, Charles Loos, Diederik Wissels, Nathalie Loriers, Erik Vermeulen, Peter Hertmans, Jeroen Van Herzeele and others.

The various styles that have affected him over the years are carefully woven in the background of “For the One and Only”. Jazz tracks that burst with straight-ahead energy rub shoulders with funky and African elements, and a superb ballad. Four of the tracks are his own compositions, the others were written by Nathalie Loriers, Piet Verbist, Dieter Limbourg and Diederik Wissels.
