Jacques Bekaert

About

Born in Belgium in 1940, Jacques Bekaert was a composer, radio broadcaster, journalist, globetrotter and author of several books (on John Cage, Richard Nixon). In the 70s, he joined an international school featuring great minds such as David Behrman, Robert Ashley, David Rosenboom and Takehisa Kosugi. He studied at Studio APELAC with Henri Pousseur, became friends with John Cage and Henri Chopin and composed for Thomas Buckner. He also founded and animated the avant-garde group Transition, created in the early 1970s.

It was Alain Gérronez who had the idea of publishing Bekaert's works. It is also he who made the cover of the record. Three works appear on this album: "A Summer Day at Stony Point", which is nothing more than a page from a diary that uses a series of sound materials recorded at Stony Point during a beautiful summer day in 1968. Stony Point is a small village in the state of New York. The woods hosted a small colony of artists such as John Cage, David Tudor, David Behrman, Shigeko Kubota, Stan Vanderbeek and Sari Dienes.
