Under his nonchalant attitude and deadpan expression, pianist Martin Salemi takes his trio, with temperament, to the heart of a music with a broad horizon. Salemi has a good sense of narrative and has the arguments to convince everyone to follow him. It must be said that he can count on a united and complicit rhythm (Boris Schmidt on double bass and Daniel Jonkers on drums) which is also, without a doubt, one of the secrets of this success.
Because this is a question of dialogues, exchanges of point of view and especially of freedom. With Martin Salemi, you almost always know where you're coming from (a bossa touch, an oriental touch, a hint of pop and swing everywhere), but you never really know where you are going. The pianist likes to take the opposite view, not to be where you expect him to be. This is what makes his music so varied and very personal. Our three musicians mischievously install chiseled melodies and make the best use of harmonies and breaths. And then it explodes, like an overflow, like a sudden and irrepressible excitement. And we smile even more. And we kick our feet. This jazz is a breath of fresh air and constant happiness, both in the lively and more introspective moments. It’s simply a delightful moment to share.
