About
A regular partner of the Igloo label, the Gaume Jazz Festival built its reputation as a "talent scout". Stimulating creativity and favouring emerging productions is the vibe it has always instilled by opening the stage to new creations and offering a carte blanche to young artists. A large number of recording projects on the Igloo label emerged from within the festival. In 2018, Igloo and the Gaume Jazz Festival signed a charter formalizing their artistic collaboration. It is in this context that the festival offered a carte blanche to pianist Margaux Vranken. "Purpose: la suite" (the sequel) features a repertoire that echoes the compositions of the album "Purpose", released in November 2020 (Igloo), between two confinements.
Several new pieces grew from this project and, due to the pandemic, allowed Margaux to reconnect with her Belgian roots. Fil Caporali (bass), Tom Bourgeois (saxophone) and Daniel Jonkers (drums) are long-time collaborators with whom Margaux has often played in Belgium before her move to the United States. This residency at Gaume also saw the appearance of new musical directions from Margaux. The French singer Stacy Claire and the Belgo-Chilean singer Marylène Corro joined "Purpose: la suite". Following these new musical experiences, Margaux recorded a second album with no less than 10 new tracks, four of which feature on this live album.
