This past Tuesday, September 22, IGLOO Records, the Jazz Station, and Les Lundis d’Hortense brought together the Belgian jazz community to pay a vibrant tribute to Jean-Claude Vantroyen.

After many years of reviewing jazz and culture in the pages of the daily newspaper Le Soir, the time has come for Jean-Claude to part ways with the publication. Throughout all these years, he supported, shared, and brought the jazz scene to life with unwavering passion, exemplary rigor, and rare kindness.

The evening opened with a captivating and candid discussion. Jean-Claude reflected on his career, the behind-the-scenes of his work as a critic, and the evolving place of jazz in the print media. It was an insightful conversation that tackled head-on the growing difficulty of getting jazz reviews accepted in today's mainstream media—a sobering observation shared with emotion by the audience, but one that also highlighted the invaluable importance of a cultural ambassador like him.

Following the discussion, the Jazz Station, Les Lundis d'Hortense, and IGLOO Records had the honor of presenting him with a symbolic gift on behalf of all the artists, musicians, and industry professionals. It was a way for the entire scene to express its deepest gratitude for his unfailing commitment and everything he has accomplished for our music.
