Théo Lanau
Théo Lanau (born in 1990) is a drummer, improviser, and composer based in Brussels. A musician constantly exploring new horizons, he ventures into all genres and aesthetics without preconceptions, as he encounters new things. He is very active on the rock, jazz, and alternative music scenes with numerous bands such as Soror, Mobilhome, Echo Beatty, Amour Tempête, Limite, Amaury Faye Trio, Pétrole, and Omega Impact, to name a few. He founded the band Le Grand Partir, with which he develops his own compositions. Their first EP was released in 2022 and the album will be released in 2025 on IGLOO Records.

Always eager to experiment, he regularly participates in improvised music gatherings. He is also one of the organizers of the Pool Sessions, a series of adventurous music concerts in small spaces.
He has performed and/or recorded with, among others, Hélène Duret, Yannick Dupont, Vitja Pauwels, Bart Maris, Pak Yan Lau, Lynn Cassiers, Clément Nourry, Quentin Biardeau, Richard Comte, Hendrik Lasure, Camille-Alban Spreng, Benjamin Sauzereau, Manolo Cabras, Gábor Gadó, Péter Ajtai, Beñat Achiary, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Théo and Valentin Ceccaldi, Maxime Petit, Sam Comerford, and Sylvain Darrifourcq. Previously, he has been heard in the electro-pop group Bobun Fever, the improvisational rock trio Roue Libre, and the French-Indian project Spicy Frog. He has recorded for over twenty albums, several of which have received critical acclaim. He has performed in numerous European countries, from Portugal to Poland, as well as in Cape Verde, Brazil, India, Tunisia, and Canada.
Théo Lanau is originally from southwest France, where he discovered jazz at the Marciac Middle School. He graduated from the Agostini Drum School in Toulouse in 2010. He studied at conservatories in Paris, Budapest, and Brussels, where he earned a Master’s degree in Jazz in 2017.
