Alejandra Borzyk

Biographie

Alejandra Borzyk is a Spanish-Belgian saxophone player, improviser, composer, performer and writer based in Brussels.

Since 2022 they lead their band "bodies", selected in 2023 as the Belgian laureate of the French support program "Propulsion". They released two EPs independently: "bodies" (2023) and "fluidos" (2024); and performed at the Brussels Jazz Weekend in notorious venues like Jazz Station, Ancienne Belgique or Neimenster (LU). The band released their first album “quiero amor” under Belgian label IGLOO Records in January 2026. In September 2025 they presented their quartet “TREMOR”, featuring Adèle Viret on cello, Benoît Quentin on doublebass and Diogo Alexandre on drums.

2025 announces shifts in their path: they are part “Sound of Brussels Orchestra”, a collective creation under the direction of Fabrizio Cassol and Adèle Viret, which stands in the crossing point of the cultural diversity the city gathers. They also attended the Jazz and Sonic Arts program at Banff Centre of Arts and Creativity (CAN), marking a new path in their creative approach and process.

They are part of and collaborate with other Brussels-based projects (Lara Humbert "I'm not done cooking" , Under the Reefs Orchestra), French-American interdisciplinary co-production “PASSIO” led by Maribeth Diggle and Lucie de Saint Vincent, and carry a solo project, performance through which they explore movement, breath art and saxophone extended techniques. They have performed alongside Samuel Ber, Farida Amadou, Aquiles Navarro, Yu-Ting Li, Jasmine Lee, Francesca Remigi, Alex Zhang Hungtai, Louise van den Heuvel and other improvisers from across the world.

In 2024, they were laureate of the program "Women in jazz" led by drummer Anne Paceo, and toured alongside the French trip hop band Chinese Man, with whom they performed in legendary venues such as Olympia in Paris.

Although the majority of their professional work lies in the music industry, their artistic vision and creation span multiple disciplines: slam poetry, theater, performance, and writing, with a strong connection to the body and movement in their playing and approach to saxophone. This crossdisciplinary approach was the foundation of their final master’s project at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. In June 2023, they carried out a multidisciplinary project denouncing rape culture and sexual violence, particularly within music education institutions.

Born in Leuven (Belgium) but raised in Torrelodones (Spain), they studied classical piano and saxophone as a kid, and started performing in 2015 alongside Madrid based bands of a large stylistic diversity (latin, reggae, funk, hip-hop, song-writers, pop, rock). Meanwhile,  they studied composition with Ramón Paús, with whom they discovered as well the universes of jazz and improvised music. They moved to Brussels in 2017 to continue their education at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels, where they graduated under cum laude in 2023, and were under the mentorship of musicians such as Jeroen van Herzeele, John Ruocco, Stéphane Galland and Diederik Wissels.
