Aurélie Charneux
After appearing on Flygmaskin’s 2025 album *Ianchelivici*, Aurélie joined the IGLOO label’s roster in 2026 with A.M.E (Aurélie Charneux, Marine Horbaczewski, and Eve Beuvens) and in 2027 with her trio featuring Simon Leleux and Nicolas Puma.
Classically trained and active as both a creator and a performer, she quickly gravitated toward improvisation and composition. Eastern music and swing have significantly influenced her artistic journey, and she explores and blends various languages in her work.
After studying at the Royal Conservatory of Mons (Belgium), Aurélie discovered Liège, where she decided to continue her studies and settle down. There, she encountered figures such as Jean-Pierre Peuvion, Michel Massot, and Garrett List, and immersed herself in the creative vibrancy of the "Cité Ardente" (Liège).
She went on to perform in various street theater productions, as well as at the Royal Opera of Wallonia, in Groupov’s *La cantate de Bisesero*, and with Orchestra ViVo—an ensemble for which she also composes. She founded the duo Les Anchoises, a "living jukebox" act that has been touring festivals and venues of all kinds since 2010.
Since then, she has developed a particular affinity for Eastern European music, especially klezmer, which has been her primary musical playground for the past twenty years. In this genre, she founded the group Klezmic Zirkus (performing for a decade across Belgium, France, and Germany, and releasing three albums, as well as a one-off project with genre master David Krakauer), the duo Odessalavie, and the quintet Mamaliga Orkestar.
Musicians such as Zahava Seewald, Geoff Berner, and the Marx Sisters have frequently called upon her talents. She also enjoys sharing her passion for music: over several summers, she has led the Klezmer ensemble at the Neufchâteau International Academy and the Klezmer workshops for "Weekend Folk" in Massembre. She has also organized traditional music workshops in Liège (at the *École Itinérante de Musique*) and at the UPJB in Brussels, as well as various one-off projects aimed at fostering improvisation and creativity.
She created, wrote, and composed *La mère de nos mères*—a musical and poetic work supported by the RTBF program *Le monde est un village*. Driven by a spirit of constant exploration, she is always seeking to evolve her musical language.
