Marine Horbaczewski
Marine Horbaczewski studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Liège, where she earned top honors in both cello and chamber music.
For four years, she participated in the "chamber rock" workshop led by Michel Massot and spent three years in Garrett List's improvisation class.
She met various musicians and actors who shared a common vision regarding music, art, and how to present artistic work to the public.
These encounters gave rise to several ensembles characterized by a shared focus on creation, improvisation, and the intersection of different musical styles and art forms (such as theater, dance, and painting):
-The Massot-Florizoone-Horbaczewski trio: tours with JazzLab Series and Lundis d'Hortense; appearances at Gaume Jazz Festival, Jazz in het Park (Ghent), Jazz Münster, Jazzèbre (Perpignan), Nevers Jazz Festival, etc.
-Wang Wei Quartet (with E. Baily, L. Meunier, X. Rogé): Jazz Station, Jacques Pelzer Club, De Hooper (Antwerp), De Mineraal (Ghent), etc. Théâtre des Doms (Avignon): collaboration with dancer Yi-Phun Chiem. Patravadi Theatre (Bangkok): creation of a show and production of two dance films in collaboration with four dancers from London, New York, Beijing, and the Faroe Islands, with support from the Asia-Europe Foundation.
-Emmanuel Louis and the Gardening Group: concerts in gardens and parks across Belgium, Italy, Germany, and France.
-The "Vivarium Tremens" company, bringing together two actors and two female musicians (with F. De Saint Georges, L. Schiltz, and J. Mairy): creation of *Phasmes* in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 2009 (upcoming performances in Belgium and Alsace); creation of a new show scheduled for spring 2011.
-Bathyscaphe II (with M. Massot, V. Ravier, and E. Baily): concerts in France and Brussels; debut album currently in production.
-She participated in the creation and tour of the show *Genèse num 2*, performed in Liège, Brussels, Paris, Rome, and Ottawa, as well as at the Avignon "In" Festival. As a musician with the Musiques Nouvelles ensemble, she has performed with Ivan Paduart, Richard Galliano, and Indian musician Dhruba Gosh, as well as in the show "Khoom" by the Mossox-Bonté dance company.
She has recently helped form a trio with a classical and contemporary repertoire; the group will be the guest ensemble for Labo#9, a masterclass led by composer Annelies Van Parys.
She teaches chamber music and improvisation at the St-Gilles Academy.
