Composer, arranger and free-lance musician, his itinerary is rich, various and marked by exceptionnal musical meetings: Chet Baker, Kenny Wheeler, Safi Boutella, Gerry Mulligan, Bill Frisell...A fruitful collaboration with Charles Loos leads to the intimacy of duets and trios with Maurane, "HLM" (IGL043) or Ali Ryerson, "Vagabondages" (IGL093).
We think we know Steve Houben... And yet he himself has never stopped questioning himself, and offers up his music in the same way: magnificent in its humility, touched by both the grace of doubt and joy of playing. His collaboration with pianist Diederik Wissels -luminous and inspired throughout- confirms the promise of previous recordings. At the same time very present and elusive, his music continuously offers and reveals itself, and therein lies its richness.
